What is the best way to lose weight?

What is the best way to lose weight?

Since competing on the weekend a lot of people have been asking me what is the best way to lost weight? Losing weight is a common goal for many people. Whether you want to shed a few pounds for better health, boost your self-confidence, or fit into that pair of jeans you haven’t worn in years, the desire to lose weight is widespread.

But with countless diets, exercise plans, and weight loss products flooding the market, it can be overwhelming to determine the best way to achieve your goals. In this article, we’ll explore the science-backed strategies and lifestyle changes that can help you effectively shed those extra pounds and maintain a healthier weight.

I could go and refer you to my Pre-Workout and Plant based protein which I had specially developed for my competition. They did play a large role in me being able to shed down through increased metabolic rate and still able to meet my protein and amino acid requirements. But there is a lot more to it than just diet fads and supplements.

Understand Your Body

Before diving into weight loss strategies, it’s crucial to understand your own body. Factors such as genetics, metabolism, age, and hormonal balance play significant roles in how your body gains and loses weight. Consulting with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian can help you gain insights into your unique needs and create a personalised plan.

At 37 I have a strong understanding of my body and a long history of exercising means I know how far I can push my body. It is also important if you are embarking on a journey into sport that you get a coach or trainer. The I Compete Natural community is quite large and well heeled with plenty of people able to support you with coaching and dieting.

Without going to the extreme’s I did to cut down on competition day, here are some basic rules to follow if you are trying to lose weight at home.

Balanced Nutrition

One of the fundamental principles of effective weight loss is maintaining a balanced diet. Focus on consuming a variety of nutrient-dense foods that provide essential vitamins and minerals. A balanced diet typically includes:

  • Lean proteins: Chicken, fish, tofu, beans, and legumes
  • Whole grains: Brown rice, quinoa, whole wheat bread, and oats
  • Fruits and vegetables: A colorful mix for a wide range of nutrients
  • Healthy fats: Avocado, nuts, seeds, and olive oil (I personally eat a lot of almonds)

Do not’s:

  • Sugary beverages: Soda, fruit juices, and sugary coffee drinks
  • Processed foods: Highly processed snacks, fast food, and sugary cereals
  • Excessive consumption of refined carbohydrates: White bread, white rice, and sugary snacks

I lost a large brunt of my weight by cutting sugar out completely and now that we are in 2023 there are a lot of snacks that replace sugar with natural sweeteners. These are great for when you do want to buckle.

Portion Control

This is another area where we can gain more control over what we are eating. We have all been there, at a party, sitting in front of the T.V or at a mates place and just over indulge and it doesn’t matter what it is. Even healthy foods can lead to weight gain if you consume them in excessive quantities. Be mindful of portion sizes, and consider using smaller plates to help control your intake. Pay attention to your body’s hunger and fullness cues, and avoid eating out of boredom or stress.

Another trick our body plays is that it can often confuse thirst with hunger. So next time you’re feeling peckish reach for a glass of water first because it might be your body telling you you’re thirsty. Staying well hydrated is essential for overall health and can support your weight loss efforts. Drinking water before meals can help you feel fuller and reduce overeating.

Regular Exercise

Physical activity is a crucial component of any effective weight loss plan. Aim for a combination of cardiovascular exercises (e.g., walking, running, swimming) and strength training (e.g., weight lifting, bodyweight exercises). Exercise not only burns calories but also boosts your metabolism, improves muscle mass, and promotes overall well-being.

Weight loss is not a quick fix; it’s a journey that requires dedication and patience. Avoid crash diets or extreme exercise regimens that promise rapid results but are often unsustainable and unhealthy. Instead, focus on creating long-term habits that you can maintain for the rest of your life.

Most of all, you need to prioritise your health. Weight loss isn’t just something you do once and then it is gone. It is something that if you want it to work you need to include it into your lifestyle. Make it fun, do it with the whole family!
