Traditional Carbonara with Bacon


Don’t know what to make for dinner tonight? why not this quick and easy Traditional Carbonara with Bacon recipe that the whole family will enjoy.


  • 400g of pasta, either fettuccine, linguine, or spaghetti.
  • 300g sliced bacon cut into 1cm strips (I use streaky bacon as it has a high fat content)
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 3 eggs,
  • 1/2 cup pasta water
  • 2/3 cup (50g) freshly grated parmesan, plus extra to serve
  • 2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley leaves (if you want to be fancy)


  1. Cook pasta in a large cooking pot in lightly salted water as outlined on packet instructions or to your liking.
  2. Crack eggs and place in bowl, whisk lightly add parmesan cheese and mix with fork. set aside.
  3. Place bacon into cold frypan then turn on to medium heat, the fat from the bacon will begin to melt and cook remaining bacon. This increases flavour. Cook bacon just before crisp (you can keep cooking and use crispy bacon). Add garlic and mix with a wooden spoon or spatula for 30 seconds or until fragrant. Turn off heat and set aside.
    Once pasta is cooked to your liking, strain and reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water. Return pasta to pot. quickly add the bacon and egg mix, stir through, add as much or little of the pasta water for desired consistency. stir well to coat the pasta in ingredients.
  5. Serve, if you want to be fancy and impress you can sprinkle a small amount of chopped fresh parsley once plated.
