Find your reason to get started, the rest will just happen

Simon Vallone, 34, full time professional and father of two

A lot of people have been asking me lately about my secret, what do I do differently and can I get them tips. The biggest tip I can provide is that you need to find your reason to get started.

So, what do I mean by that? Well, weight loss, training, growing, shredding all of it is easy. Eat right, exercise and boom! you grow muscle and lose weight.

However, you won’t achieve any of it unless you have a reason and that’s what you need to establish first. I didn’t start training for a music festival, a girl or any other reason. I was already in a long term committed relationship so becoming “appealing” to others wasn’t something I was chasing.

I was 25 years old sitting in a doctors office overweight, sluggish, constant acid reflux and tired. I had a blood test taken and was awaiting the doctors run down. It wasn’t good. I had high blood pressure, sugars were too high, visceral fat was way above normal. The doctor told me upfront that if I didn’t make a change I’d have diabetes by 30 and looking at having a stroke or heart problems when I was older.

I was provided a number of options in relation to changing my diet, exercising more and lifting my overall health. I was shocked, I’ve never really had a bad diet but as it turned out, the meals I was eating were full of calories. Changing my diet wasn’t something I was willing to do, especially as a 25 year old bloke who loved his steak and parmas. So I needed a way to make fitness work for me so that I could continue to eat what I wanted, when I wanted and not miss out.

So what’s my reason for getting started? So I can eat more of the food I like.

That’s why the most important thing is to find your reason to get started, otherwise you will find it hard to make the time to train, you will struggle to get out of bed early for a run, when you wake up the next day after a training session in pain, you’ll give up.

I want to show you how easy it is to lose weight, nothing major just 1kg in a week. I’m also going to share with you that you don’t need to compromise on food.

Starting from today, I will share with you my breakfast, lunch and dinners to help you see how easy it is. Yes some of my meals may appear small but I assure you, once you start it is enough and if your hungry that block of chocolate (not everyday) isn’t going to hurt.

Let me help you find your reason to get started.
